KATRINA DOUGLAS

Katrina Douglas is a director and producer passionate about developing new work that re-imagines the possibilities of live performance. Her artistic practice is centred around collaborating with artists and communities to create interdisciplinary work that explores new methods of audience interaction. Over the last two years, Katrina has forged a new career pathway that melds her passion for live performance and her interest in virtual reality.

Katrina is currently working as writer and director of ‘Being Debra’ a virtual reality cinematic production, filmed with 180 degree cameras, that will immerse the viewer into the lived experience of a person with dwarfism. Debra Keenahan is the Artistic Director of the project and the film is based on her personal experiences. ‘Being Debra’ supported by the Australia Council for the Arts and UNSW: Art & Design.

Katrina Douglas is the Artistic Director / CEO of PACT centre for emerging artists. She also has had extensive experience producing and directing for numerous companies across Australia including the Q Theatre at Penrith Performing & Visual Arts, Sydney Theatre Company, Metro Screen, Griffin Theatre, Information and Cultural Exchange, Impro Australia, Jabiru Town Council, Shopfront Contemporary Arts, ATYP, St Martins and Powerhouse Youth Theatre.

Recent theatre credits include: director of the award winning ‘Intersection’ (ATYP 2017);  co-director with Fred Copperwaite of ‘iDNA’ devised by PACT Collective (PACT 2016); director Listen! I’m Telling You Stories created by PACT COLLECTIVE (PACT 2015); dramaturge and outside eye A Boy & A Bean written & performed by Nick Atkins (PACT, Q Theatre & Mardi Gras 2014); director Manakottai (ICE & Parramasala 2013); director Dance Hall Days (Q Theatre 2013); director of the acclaimed, award winning premiere of Truck Stop by Lachlan Philpott (Q Theatre 2012); director of a staged reading of Bolongairi by Leanne Tobin (Blacktown Arts Centre 2012); director The Maids by Jean Genet (Q Theatre 2011); director Dad & Dave: Live at the Q (Q Theatre 2011); director Mash Up (Q Theatre 2010); director of Colder by Philpott for (Griffin Independent 2008); and director of a staged reading of Wretch by Angus Cerini (Sydney Theatre Company 2008).

Film and TV credits include co-producer After Hours (Jabiru Town Council 2006); director Suicide Prevention Education Training Video (Lifeforce 2005); co-producer and director Anti Bullying Educational DVD ( Junction Works INC 2005); and director In The Swim (a TV pilot SBS screened nationally 2001).

Katrina holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Dramatic Arts (Direction) from the School of Drama, Victorian College of the Arts University of Melbourne (1999); a Master of Arts Administration from the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW (1997); and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney (1993).
